Daughter Of Darkness (1993) @ 滅門慘案之孽殺

At a glance:

Memorable CAT III fare by Ivan Lai Kai Ming with that girl Lily Chung Suk Wai (Red To Kill 1994, Sexy And Dangerous 1996) where the vulnerable protagonist is an stepdaughter who gets blamed for everythin under the sun, eventually crackin under the slow-cook abuse and goin berserk Terminator-style on the whole family, especially the father, played by a positively pervy William Ho Ka Kui.
Bad news on the doorstep:

Anthony Wong's maverick China cop antiques render it too playful and the comic detracts from the flavour of the film to the point of nausea.
Perennial wonderment:

What are all these former soft porn actresses doin in Hong Kong now?
I can't remember if I cried:
When Anthony Wong fondles a female corpse and correctly ascertains the time of death based purely on the sogginess of her breasts, passin it off as brilliant police work as a colleague gapes in admiration.
Reminds me of:
Red To Kill (1994) and all the other films in which Lily Chung (pic) gets raped.
Watch out for:
Violent end sequence that teaches you how to stab someone to death with a deity figurine.
Most memorable line:
Who needs lines with a DVD cover like that?
Amacam joker, berapa bintang lu mau kasi?
Two and a half.

Taxi Hunter (1993) @ 的士判官

At a glance:
Decent CAT II Herman Yau exploitation flick about mild-mannered office guy (played by his favourite actor Anthony Wong, pic) whose pregnant wife dies due to a bastard taxi driver. He turns into a nutjob and goes all out to eliminate all shortchangin, overchargin, non-complyin taximen. Apparently inspired by a real taxi strike in Hong Kong.
Perennial wonderment:
How the beautiful (well maybe not so much pre-ops) Athena Chu and the Ambassador of Ugly Mr. Ng Man Tat can play father and daughter in a movie. Rank.
Reminds me of:
The highly effective Michael Douglas-starrer Falling Down, also about a troubled anti-hero who goes off the handle. Just look at the poster. Released in the same year even. Also, the other Herman Yau-Anthony Wong classic Ebola Syndrome, an exceedingly exploitative and enjoyable CAT III feature usin the same stressed-good-guy-goes-nuts formula.
Watch out for:
The pregnant wife freak accident scene. Gilababi.
Most memorable line:
You are also a good whore.
Amacam joker, berapa bintang lu mau kasi? The second layer to this story is how the deranged cabbie killer remains a nice guy in every other way thoughout the movie. Give Herman ★★1/2 for such an entertainin watch despite it not bein a CAT III. Wotta man.

Menace II Society (1993)

At a glance:
Perennially referenced textbook thug movie set in So-Cal LA, with the highest f-word-per-minute dialogue at the time apparently. Movie starts with the brother shootin dead a Korean shop owner and his wife. From there, we just get sucked into a hard knock life so to speak.
Reminds me of:
A coupla brothers I used to know.
Watch out for:
A young Jada Pinkett Smith, who plays Ronnie, the woman with a kid in hand and a man in prison with no parole.
Most memorable line:
Caine (on bein told the bitch he boinked was pregnant): "Stop lying, alright? Besides, I had the jimmy on extra tight."
Amacam joker, berapa bintang lu mau kasi? Not often you get a look-in like this.★★★1/2
