Death Sentence (2007)

At a glance:
Malaysian-born Saw director James Wan has fun cookin this traditional revenge story by spicin it up with some old country western themes and settin it against a bleak urban gangland for a backdrop. Kevin Bacon as a suit is a surefire hit. His bony countenance when playin men of position assures the discomfort would always boil over into somethin interestin! As Nick Gladiator Hume, the wronged father of a dead son, husband of a dead wife, he is challenged to deliver the sort of uneasy viewin we last saw in The Woodsman. In a plot reminiscent of The Brave One, Bacon is the darker male version of Jodie Foster who hunts an enemy that might just be less sinister than the person he has become.
Watch out for:
In the words of the good director himself, movie's best achievement is a continuous three-minute relay cam take at a parkin lot - a scene almost worthy of being mentioned in the same league as Hitchcock's Rope or that amazin long take in Children Of Men.
Perennial wonderment:
Isn't Kelly Preston simply sweet? Too bad she's a Scientologist.
Amacam joker, berapa bintang lu mau kasi?
Three. Could do with more if the bullet banquet near the end were a bit closer to the protagonist's emotions.
